Department sets aside $160 million for conservation
The Department of the Interior announced on Thursday of last week that a new round of funding had been approved for wetland conservation across North America. Roughly $160 million was apportioned to restore wildlife areas that are used by migratory birds in several states. The money will be used to purchase or lease land to create areas for nature to live undisturbed by industry.
Secretary Bernhardt praised the program saying, “These dollars are from our great conservationists – the hunters and anglers who purchase migratory bird stamps. These efforts support local economies and wildlife in numerous ways. As the country continues to reopen, access to outdoor spaces is more important than ever, and we are doing our part to maintain public access and conserve natural habitats.”
